So you’ve had your heart set on getting yourself a onesie. But how do you actually go about buying one? This article covers everything you’ll need to know to get a perfect match.
1. Dressing for the occasion
When buying a onesie, you need to have an idea what you will be wearing it for. Is it for sleeping in, for a party or just for general, everyday use? The occasion will determine the style of onesie you should go for.
2. Finding your onesie
Once you’ve decided on the type of onesie you need, the hunt officially begins! But where do you look?
Physical stores are typically where you would look when wanting to buy stuff. To save time though, I recommend doing a Google search for clothing stores in your area which sell onesies as not every place may stock them. Google may not be able to capture every single store available (e.g. if the store doesn’t have an online catalog), but doing this beforehand definitely helps you narrow your search before you actually hit the stores. Some brick-and-mortar stores which sell onesies – depending on the season – are Zara, H&M and Target.
Another great way of finding onesies is through the Internet. Personally, this is my preferred way of buying my onesies because unlike hitting physical stores, your choices aren’t limited to what’s available in your surrounding locations. Rather, you have the world at your disposal (there’s a reason why it’s called the World Wide Web!). And, you can shop in the comfort of your home!
It’s really easy to find onesies on the Internet via a Google search. Here’s some of my favorite sites.
Ah, the giant of online shopping – Amazon. What will we do without thee? With a simple search, you get thousands of onesies just begging you to take them home. You can also narrow your searches through filters such as department, brand and price.
If you’re the impatient sort who can’t wait for your stuff to arrive, I highly recommend that you sign up for Amazon Prime. At just $99/year, you get (among other perks) FREE Two-Day shipping for Amazon Prime-marked items, which means your order arrives two days after being placed. Guaranteed!! No minimum order size required. Selected metro areas in the US also get FREE Same-Day delivery. It’s totally awesome.
If you’re searching for onesies for casual everyday wear, look no further than OnePiece. Their onesies are simply-designed, yet so comfortable and classy that celebrities such as One Direction, Justin Bieber and Perez Hilton have become converts. While their suits are a tad on the pricey side, with the quality that comes with a OnePiece onesie, you can be sure you’re getting your money’s worth.
OnePiece ships internationally from the US, so you can get your chill-out wear fix from wherever you are in the world.
Kigurumi-Shop is a great place to check out if you’re looking for costumed onesies. Their animal onesies aren’t your usual dog/cat/giraffe designs – they also have unconventional animals such as unicorns, red pandas and chipmunks! I really like their selection of character onesies too, which includes favorites such as Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh and Olaf from the Frozen movie. Awwww.
If you think it’s too hot to wear a onesie in summer, think again – Kigurumi-Shop stocks onesies with short sleeves and pant legs, so you can go out in style while preventing yourself from melting into a puddle along the way. Check out their summer collection, which is available all-year round.
Shipping in the US is a flat $8 no matter how many onesies you buy at a go, so take this opportunity to round up your family and friends to put in a mass purchase! (And once you hit the $99 mark, shipping is free!!)
Get one custom-made
If you’ve searched high and low for That Perfect Onesie but nothing just seems right, or if you just want to be the owner of a onesie which no one else has, consider commissioning someone to make it for you from scratch. That way, you can be sure that your onesie will be exactly as how you want it, from design to color to material! Etsy is a great place to get custom-made, one-of-a-kind onesies – check it out.
3. Color up!
Onesies come in all sorts of colors. Pick your favorite, keeping in mind the occasion you’re getting the onesie for.
4. Onesie fabric
People tend to overlook this step, but it’s worth taking a look at the fabric type of the onesie beforehand. Different fabric types are best-suited for different purposes: for example, fleece onesies are cuddly and extra warm, making them perfect for cool weather! For warmer days, opt for lighter and thinner materials such as terrycloth and pile.
5. Check the sizing
Check the sizing of the onesie carefully before buying – there’s no point getting a onesie which you can’t fit in! You may need to measure yourself with measuring tape to make sure the onesie you’re buying isn’t too small or too baggy.
Research on the price ranges of onesies similar to the one you want to buy to get a rough idea of how much yours might cost. Afterwards, set yourself a budget and keep to it. However, don’t be afraid to exceed your budget if you find something you absolutely must have (provided you can afford it of course!).
7. Expected delivery date
This step only applies to when you’re buying a onesie online instead of from a physical store, and especially if it’s for a special occasion. Check the expected delivery date of your onesie to make sure it arrives before your event. As a general rule of thumb, try to buy your onesie as early as possible to save yourself from worrying that it will not arrive in time. Otherwise, consider paying extra for expedited shipping if you need your onesie urgently.
P.S.: Again, if you’re shopping on Amazon.com, I highly recommend signing up for Amazon Prime membership as it comes with FREE Two-Day shipping for all Prime-eligible items. You probably won’t get any faster shipping than this!
8. Return policy – just in case
Before making your purchase, have a quick look at the store’s return policy and take note of it in case you need to return your onesie. Hopefully you won’t have to, but at least you’ll be aware of the requirements should you have to. It’s also a good practice to keep your receipts as proof of purchase, just in case.
This article has covered everything you need to know before buying your onesie. I hope you have found it useful. If you have any questions or comments, leave a message and I’ll be with you shortly!
